10 New Year Resolutions to My CarA new year is here, and I am still on a mission to keep all my promises to myself. I want to make life better, easier, and more organized. So I have created some resolutions for myself like making sure I exercise every day, and maybe cutting down on soda; and I have made some serious resolutions concerning the care of my beloved, my car.

Our vehicles need care and maintenance. When we neglect them, we can experience serious problems. For anyone who wants to keep a car in great running condition, there are a few promises that you need to make to your vehicle, and these promises need to be kept; or you will find yourself stranded on the side of the road or otherwise facing unfun and unexpected expense.

#10 – I promise to check and change your oil.

Regular oil checks are extremely important and crucial to the maintenance and performance of your car. There is nothing better you can do to keep a vehicle in great condition than making sure that your oil is checked and changed. Neglecting to check and change your oil is like neglecting to put fresh food and nourishment into your own body.

#9 – I will never allow the kids to drink soda on your back seat again!

I know that cars like to look their best, and how you look is a reflection of how responsible and caring I am. So I promise to never allow the kids to drink any fountain sodas, or eat any french fries on your back seat.

#8 – I will not forget to flush and change your coolant this year.

Flushing a car’s coolant system and changing the coolant once a year helps to keep the cooling system in great shape, and stops corrosion and deposits from building up. The cooling system is like one of your car’s vital organs, and needs regularly scheduled care and attention.

#7 – I promise to keep you clean, polished, vacuumed, and smelling great!

I will do my best to keep this promise, though I may fall short at times. I will make sure that you are bathed at least twice a month. I may even take on the chore of doing it myself.

#6 – I will remember to get your transmission serviced.

Remembering to service the transmission, is highly important to keeping a vehicle running smoothly. Taking the vehicle to a professional auto mechanic is a wise idea.

#5 – I promise to keep your doors “ding-free”.

No more swinging your doors wide open, while not watching what I’m doing. I will park further from the store entry when shopping (I can use the exercise too). I realize that you have enough little dents and dings on you to last a lifetime.

#4 – I will have a good coat of wax applied, at least every six months.

If you want to keep your car’s paint looking fresh and new, a good coat of protective wax, applied at least every six months, will help to keep your paint job looking stellar.

#3 – Brake fluid is cheap! I promise to have it checked at least once a year.

One of the most economical things you can do for your car is to have your brake fluid checked and replaced if needed. This task is a lot cheaper than the problems it can cause if neglected.

#2 – I promise to drive more carefully.

Sometimes I am distracted, and sometimes I become upset by another driver. Sometimes it’s other reasons that I may not drive as carefully as I should.  Regardless, I promise to always buckle up and take better care in traffic for your sake and mine.

And my #1 resolution to my car in 2014!!!

I will NOT trade you in, for a younger, …cheaper model! I know that if I take good care of you, that you will take good care of me; by staying in good condition for many more years to come.
